Debra Ann Cooper
January 24, 1954 – June 2, 2018
On January 24, 1954, in Houston, Texas, Johnnie and Gladys Johnson welcomed their only girl child into the world out of four boys. They decided to call her Debra Ann.
Debra Ann accepted Christ and decided to the walk with the Lord at an early age. She was baptized at Macedonia Baptist Church. She let her little light shine bright. God’s presence in her life was always evident.
After her graduation from Cyfair High School, she pursued work in an area that brought her great joy, culinary. Luby’s Cafeteria became her home away from home. She served the community and made a living doing what she loved most. Eventually, she took her talents to Kroger grocery store, where she designed beautiful cakes in the bakery department until she decided to retire.
Ann or “Mama Coop”, as people called her, had a passion for cooking. It truly warmed her heart to see others enjoy her food. She took pride in every dish, making every single one a labor of love. Her family and friends knew that whenever she showed up, she’d have something tasty with her. They looked forward to eating her cornbread dressing, cheesy spaghetti and perfectly baked cakes.
Debra joined Christian Rescue Church now named City Cathedral Church under the leadership of Bishop Leroy J Woodard. She was a devout member and served on the Usher Board.
Debra Ann was a lover of life and family. She loved to dance, play cards, sing, and enjoy the company of her family and friends. She will be remembered as the one who filled the hearts and stomachs of those whom she loved most.
On the evening of June 2, 2018, Our Heavenly Father decided that Ann was ready to go from her earthly labor to her heavenly reward.
She has fought a good fight of faith and has finished her course! There is no doubt, Ann will hear the voice of God say “Well done, my good and faithful servant!”
