BILLIE EDWARDS OBITUARY
Billie Virginia (Lane) Edwards was born on June 16, 1937 in Lone Oak, Texas to Lee Alice Everett and Russel Lane.
Billie attended Paul Lawrence Dunbar Elementary School where she received her childhood education. She received Christ and was baptized at an early age in Lone Oak, Texas at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. In early 1960’s Billie relocated her family to California and joined Cavalry Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the usher board and was president of the Mother’s board. In 2002 she relocated back to Texas and joined Graceland Community Baptist Church there she was a member of the Mother’s board.
Billie was a wonderful mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother. She enjoyed cooking their favorite meals as well as giving them advice. Billie was loved by everyone. She had a warm spirit, a kind heart and a great love for her family. She welcomed many to her home for fellowship, fun times and always a great meal. She continued to raise her family and insure her children excelled until she met her true love, Louis Edwards in 1974. They were united in holy matrimony on Feb 9, 1986.
Billie was a dedicated employee with a tremendous work ethic. She worked tirelessly and for many years overnight as a true Matriarch of a single parent household. She retired from The Cedars of Marin in 1999.
She was also a member of the Eastern Star Lodge. She and twelve magnificent women started the All Star social club which they participated in community involvement. They were mostly remembered for the yearly hot august night Reno fundraiser bus trip. Years later she helped establish a Family social club. Billie continued her active lifestyle and joined a swim team, which she truly enjoyed and was dedicated to her early morning routines.
Billie was the eldest of nine siblings, two brothers and seven sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Billie Joe Polk and Howard Polk, and two daughters, Janet Louise Polk and Linda Faye Polk, and two sister, Jacqueline Hubbard and Sylvia Lee Harris, one grandson Graylen Hunt Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Louis Edwards, stepmother Daisy Lane, six children: Virginia Booth, Elvira Polk, Thressa Polk, Sandra Polk, LaPaula Polk (Melvin) Thompson, and Angela Polk, stepdaughter Sara Edwards, two brothers: Johnnie (Haixia) Harris and Paul (Sheila) Harris, four sisters: Joann (Michael) Rowel, Jeanette Hooper, Lalia Williams and Dorothy Runnels. Sister-in-law: Rosette Goree and RoseMary Edwards and Brother-in-law: Major (Diann) Edwards and Dave (Betty) Edwards, a God Daughter Alicia Bradley, one aunt, one uncle, twenty six grandchildren, over thirty five great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
